ACID

ACID is short for the four qualities of transactions that modern databases ensure:

Atomic - A transaction is all or nothing
Consistent - All operations within a transaction see the same view of the world.
Independent - Transactions are indpendent of each (no cross-tx leakage of changes)
Durable - Once committed, the changes made within a transaction are permanent (they don't just vanish for no reason!)
